Pueblo Habitat for Humanity
Pueblo Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization.  Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing.  The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.

Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses.  Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor - "sweat equity" - into building their homes and the homes of others.   Their mortgage payments go into a revolving Fund for Humanity that is used to build more houses.

December 2001:  We've just completed the framing on a straw bale house for the Hinojosa family on 557 Pear Street.   The design of this home integrates the super-insulation of straw bales with passive solar and other features so that the Hinojosa's will continue to save on their utility bills year after year.
Tentative schedule for the straw bale house now under construction:
12/17/01-12/31/01  Finish heating, plumbing and electrical rough-in
1/1/02-1/11/02        Finish framing and inspections
1/12/02-1/31/02      Place straw
2/1/02-2/15/02        Finish inside walls
2/16/02-2/28/02      Trim and paint
3/1/02-3/15/02        Carpets, vinyl, cabinets
3/16/02-3/31/02      Final plumbing, electrical, heating
4/1/02-4/15/02        Finish work and final inspections
4/16/02                   Close
